Om dette verktøyet

Time Converter provides a robust, multi-field workflow for translating durations across common time units. It accepts a numeric value, a source unit, and a target unit, returning a precise result suitable for engineering, scientific, and planning tasks. It supports milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and approximate factors for months and years. The approach centers on a canonical base in seconds and a unit map that defines each unit's seconds factor. This design enables consistent results across large and small magnitudes and supports batch calculations in automated pipelines. Users benefit from a predictable, non-calendar-centric method for duration arithmetic, which is essential in data logging, experiment planning, and project estimation. The tool emphasizes numerical accuracy and repeatability, rather than calendar semantics or time-zone considerations. It is especially valuable when conversions must be chained or embedded in scripts, spreadsheets, or data processing workflows.
Its differentiating value lies in explicit handling of fractional inputs, optional decimal precision, and clear error handling for invalid units, making it reliable for both quick ad-hoc checks and repeated systematic conversions. Use cases include converting 5 hours to minutes for scheduling, translating 2.5 days to seconds for data normalization, or converting weeks to hours for staffing models.

Hvordan bruke

  1. Provide inputs: value and source_unit;
  2. Choose target_unit;
  3. (Optional) set decimal_places for output precision;
  4. Run calculation;
  5. Review the numeric result in the target_unit;
  6. If needed, adjust inputs and repeat for additional conversions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Finn raske svar

What units are supported?
Supported units include milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and approximate factors for calendar months and years. Values can be fractional, and the tool validates unit codes before calculation.
How are months and years treated?
Months and years are approximated using fixed day counts (e.g., 30.4375 days per month, 365.25 days per year). Conversions are numeric optimizations, not calendar-aware, and do not account for leap days.
How is precision handled?
Output precision is controlled by the decimal_places setting. If omitted, results default to 6 decimal places and are rounded after conversion.
Are large values supported?
Values are parsed as IEEE 754 numbers. Extremely large magnitudes may approach the limits of floating-point precision; for typical engineering use, up to around 1e12 is reliable.
