About This Tool

The tool solves the problem of converting amounts across currencies by providing a simple, auditable calculation using current or historical rates. It is designed for finance professionals, accountants, treasurers, freelancers, and analysts who regularly handle multi-currency transactions, budgets, or financial reporting. Conceptually, it fetches a rate for the specified date (latest by default), validates inputs against ISO 4217 codes, and computes converted_amount = amount × rate. If a direct rate is not available, it derives the cross-rate via a base currency (e.g., USD) using stored or live rates for each leg. It returns the rate used and a timestamp for auditability. Unique value lies in its clarity and reliability: explicit input validation, deterministic results, support for historical checks, and clear error codes when data is missing. Use cases include multi-currency budgets, reconciliations, invoice generation, and travel planning.

How to Use

  1. Provide inputs: amount, from_currency, to_currency, and optional date.
  2. Choose latest or historical rate mode.
  3. Run calculation to obtain converted_amount and rate.
  4. Review outputs and verify currency codes.
  5. Save or export results if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find Quick Answers

What currencies are supported?
The tool supports all ISO 4217 currencies present in the rate feed. If a code is unknown or deactivated, the conversion fails with CURRENCY_NOT_SUPPORTED, guiding correction.
Can I use historical rates?
Yes, you can specify a date to fetch the rate from that day. If the exact date is unavailable, the system uses the nearest available date. If still unavailable, RATE_UNAVAILABLE is returned.
Is the data real-time?
Rates are updated regularly and used as latest by default. For mission-critical tasks, treat results as indicative; this is not a bank-grade real-time feed.
What happens on data failure?
If the rate feed cannot provide a value due to network or service error, the tool returns RATE_UNAVAILABLE and no conversion is produced; debugging information is provided via error codes.
