Internet Speed Test

This tool measures real-time internet performance by running download and upload tests against a selectable server. It reports latency (ping), jitter, and bandwidth in Mbps, enabling users to quantify the quality of their connection and compare ISP performance. The core workflow uses a fixed test file size for download and a corresponding upload payload, computing speeds from time measurements. It is suitable for IT professionals, gamers, and remote workers who require objective network metrics and a repeatable benchmark. The tool emphasizes accuracy, repeatability, and clear unit reporting, with safeguards for unstable connections and server unavailability. Upon invocation, the system selects or confirms a test server, warms up connections, and then streams a file of the specified size to measure throughput. The download test measures time-to-download, while the upload test measures time-to-upload; both derive Mbps using the standard formula Mbps = bytes × 8 / seconds. It also collects multiple ping samples to estimate latency and jitter, providing confidence intervals when enabled. This combination supports SLA validation, network troubleshooting, and proactive capacity planning. The differentiators include automated server selection optimization, robust retry logic, and precise timing controls that reduce measurement variance, helping enterprises and power users assess connection quality accurately. The tool is designed to operate in varied environments—from crowded corporate networks to consumer hotspots—and remains agnostic to the underlying hardware, focusing on network-visible performance outcomes.
