About This Tool

The tool accepts bibliographic inputs such as authors, year, title, source details, and identifiers, then produces a correctly formatted APA citation string for a chosen source type (journal article, book, website, etc.).
Conceptually it applies APA 7th edition rules: author formatting (last name, initials), proper punctuation, order of elements, handling multiple authors with et al. when applicable, and DOI/URL treatment. It supports common source types and optional fields like edition, editors, container titles, and retrieval dates.
Beneficiaries include students, researchers, librarians, editors, and instructors who require fast, verifiable references. Unique value lies in consistent output across source types, optional advanced handling for up to many authors, and immediate downloadable or copy-ready citations for inclusion in manuscripts and reference lists.

How to Use

  1. Provide inputs: author(s), year, title, source type, and publication details.
  2. Include identifiers: DOI or URL when available.
  3. Optional fields: volume, issue, page range, publisher, edition, retrieval date.
  4. Run generation to produce formatted citation.
  5. Copy the citation and paste into the reference list.
  6. Repeat for additional sources and export as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find Quick Answers

What source types are supported?
Supports journal articles, books, webpages, conference proceedings, reports, theses, and other common scholarly formats. Each type maps to APA elements like authors, year, title, journal or book details, and identifiers.
How are multiple authors handled?
APA 7th edition rules are applied: list all authors up to 20; if more, list the first 19, then an ellipsis, followed by the final author's name. No author data is altered.
When should retrieval dates be included?
Retrieval dates are used for non-datable sources such as online reports or pages without a publication date. For dated sources with stable DOIs, retrieval dates are omitted.
Can I export to BibTeX or other formats?
The tool outputs a plain APA citation text. Export to BibTeX or Word-ready fields is not provided in the current version; copy-paste into your document or reference manager as needed.
