About This Tool

This tool computes real power, apparent power, and reactive power from input current and voltage. It supports DC and AC scenarios with an optional power factor. For DC, real power equals voltage times current and reactive power is zero. For AC, the tool derives apparent power as voltage times current, then uses the power factor to determine real and reactive components. The results enable quick verification of component ratings, wiring requirements, and safety margins. Users include electrical engineers sizing motors and drives, technicians performing on-site checks, and students learning power fundamentals. The core advantage is mapping simple measurements to a complete power profile without manual rearrangement of formulas. It is especially useful during design reviews, fault analysis, and load budgeting where both real and reactive power information is needed. The tool enforces unit consistency and presents outputs with two-decimal precision for clear documentation. In DC mode, PF defaults to unity and Q is zero, while in AC mode PF may be provided to yield P and Q accurately. This combination of inputs and outputs supports quick decision-making about equipment ratings and energy budgeting across common voltages and typical PF values, helping teams avoid oversizing or undersizing components.

How to Use

1. Enter current in amperes and voltage in volts.
2. Select system type as DC or AC.
3. (Optional) provide power factor for AC calculations.
4. Review computed watts, VA, and VAR values.
5. Use results for component sizing or energy budgeting.
6. If PF is omitted for AC, PF defaults to 1 and Q becomes 0.
