About This Tool

The tool accepts width and height in a selected input unit and converts them to a target unit using a provided DPI. It supports common digital and print units (px, in, cm, mm, pt, pc) and validates inputs. Results include width_out and height_out with optional aspect-ratio preservation. It is intended for asset planning, mockups, and specification sheets. The approach is calculation-focused and does not modify image content.
Users provide dimensions, choose input and output units, and supply DPI to obtain consistent sizing across devices and formats. The system handles edge cases such as missing DPI by applying a sensible default and ensures outputs are rounded to a usable precision. The core value lies in speed, accuracy, and the ability to compare target sizes against platform constraints without image processing.

How to Use

  1. Provide inputs: width, height, input_unit, output_unit, and DPI.
  2. Enable or disable keep_aspect to preserve the original aspect ratio.
  3. Run calculation to obtain width_out and height_out.
  4. Review results and copy values for asset specs or documentation.
  5. Repeat for additional assets as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find Quick Answers

What units are supported and when should I use DPI?
Supported units are px, in, cm, mm, pt, and pc. DPI is required to convert from pixel-based dimensions to physical units or vice versa. Use a high DPI (e.g., 300) for print; use 72 or 96 for screen designs, depending on target device conventions.
How can I preserve aspect ratio during conversion?
Enable the keep_aspect option. Enter one dimension (width or height) in the input unit; the tool computes the other dimension to maintain the original width/height ratio, using the same target unit and DPI.
Can I convert dimensions for multiple images at once?
This tool processes one width/height pair per calculation. To convert additional assets, repeat the steps for each pair. It does not batch-process image files.
What if DPI is missing or unknown?
If DPI is not provided, a default of 72 is assumed. For print-focused work, supply a higher DPI (e.g., 300) to obtain physically accurate measurements in inches, centimeters, or millimeters.
